Anyone tested Android apps using remote devices with real GPS?

The other day I was trying to test a location-based app update, but changing the IP alone didn’t seem to give the right results. I wondered if using a remote Android device that actually has real GPS data from the region would be more reliable. Has anyone tested Android apps using remote devices with real GPS to get accurate location feedback? I’m curious if this method truly reflects the user experience in those target markets better than emulators or VPN tricks. Also, does the real network type or native mobile environment affect app behavior during testing? I’d be interested in hearing how well services with actual geo-located phones perform in everyday testing scenarios.
