It looks like Drexler has abandoned nanotech with his last reference to it in 2013. He appears to have switched bandwagons to AI as recent as 2019. If publish or perish still holds, nanotech perished.

I would say that the continuity of the general idea might be found either in Black-goo stories about graphene oxide-- which is quite substantial especially since 2013, coincidentally with Drexler's end to publications on nanotech. Another thread of continuity for me revolves around quantum physics and Doug Matzke's ideas on Deep Reality that posit mind as separate from brain after all. I'm currently attempting to summarize Matzke. I'm on a mailing list for graphene oxide industry which is highly impressive too.
