MY current view:
I was under the impression that the nominal dollars one signs up for would remain the same from now until denanimation given memberhip dues over the years. The above discussion might have included a dues analysis... I'll have to reread it.
If you sign up at 25 and die at 100, 75 years with membership dues at $1000/yr, say for argument sake, would be 75,000. The original fee for CP = CryoPreservation, at 80K would yield nominal dollars of 2 X 80 roughtly or 160,000. If there are a 1000 members, then that's 160 million dollars going into Alcor.
It still doesn't look like enough money to me given some of the fortunes of wealth members like Laughlin who alone was worth 100 million at least. To make cryonics viable, the wealthy would have to put their estate into the general funding of cryonics overall to make it work for everyone but they won't do that, according to what I've seen. They think that that's cryonics socialism. They'd rather fund themselves, live and let die.
Cryonics attracts people who are anti-collectivist. That's a paradox. Cryonics can only succeed through collectivist finanancing but cryonics only attracts individualists. This might be what killed cryonics.
