Dorothy loved the look and feel, the sound and excitement of CASH money. Bank accounts, time deposits and real estate estate, she got a real KICK out of filling a TIP JAR with $80 in fives, tens and ones in an evening of playing. I don't disagree with her because "money is money". She would go over the top to enjoy our counting the tips each night however and I shared her excitement even though the next day I would plug the number into a boring ledger sheet and compile it for the month end.
Well in order to preserve her excitement, it would be neccessary to store cash on her dresser top and she would routinely ask about the cash being there. Of course, I'd participate, count it and verify it routinely. I didn't like to keep TOO much cash in the house but of course, a good amount of cash is good to have on hand in case ATM's and power go down so it wasn't a problem.
As it turned out, I had to arrange for her cremation, total cost $1450, or $1500 rounded off the nearest hundred. I dumped it onto a credit card reluctantly but there was no choice. The a "little voice" reminded me of the cash on top of the dresser she kept from tips, $3000. I decided I could pay the CC$1500 down with the $3000, and keep the $1500 for myself, she seemed to be saying.
That's a long winded interpretation and scientifically unverifiable but it struck a chord in me that seemed to be EXACTLY how Dorothy would have made it happen. She seemed to be saying "THAT" is what I was saving my tips for, as a funeral home insuarance so it would not burden you. And there's $1500 in it to cover you for your trouble too. That's her. It all jives with her persona.
Non scientifically verifiable, but emotionally true, in my opinion.
