Jones- All I know is that I am my brain
Rick- I thought so too.
Jones - since I am my brain I have the brilliant idea that maybe I should preserve my brain and that way they can use my brain to recover me because I have the information in my brain
Rick- Drexler thinks so too. He wrote “memory and personality are embedded in physical brain structure”. I agreed with Drexler for years. Earlier than that, I found that Ettinger’s Prospect of Immortality made a convincing case.
Jones- Now you say that maybe through some sort of quantum magic or whatever maybe they can revive me without my brain
Rick- Yes, because I’ve discovered a pathway to personal immortality that is not dependent on the brain since the mind is not dependent on the brain. The brain is not the seat of consciousness but rather an antenna and receiver that ‘hosts’ one’s conscioueness much like a television set doesn’t contain The Tonight Show with David Letterman when we watch that show. The television merely receives the show’s signal and projects it. A caveman would call that ‘magic’. Aasimov said that any technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic.
Jones- I'm going to err on the side of caution and I'm going to provide the physical container that is me or that contains me to the Future science.
Rick- I was in that mood for many decades too. I know how you feel. A lot of it was the result of limiting my thinking to nanotechnology based on Drexler’s arguments. Then I found Matzke and reconsidered the second universe, in the basement of our classical universe. The mind is found there, in the quantum realm. The hard problem of consciousness has thusly been solved. We’re already ‘preserved’ there as well as ‘active’ there. Our physical form, our body, is being projected from that realm as well. This can be proven with a volt-meter as Harold S. Burr did from 1935 to 1960 and as popularly documented by Edward W. Russell in “Design for Destiny” in 1972.
Jones- err on the side of caution
Rick- I used to think like that as well but my motivation for preserving the brain-as-antenna as opposed to keeping my current life-field actively operating optimally seems to have evaporated. It might be an interesting exercise as a form of protest and I’ve been mulling that approach but the essence of my argument has not been fully addressed by cryonics advocates who simply dismiss quantum reality with a wave of the hand. Taken seriously, quantum reality basically solves the mystery of everything that materialists and reductionists have regarded as magic, woo-woo and religious delusion in the past. Quantumology is to cryonics what cryonics is to irrational belief in an afterlife. In effect, cryonics is a ‘limited hangout’ that refuses to look beyond 10*-9 meters. Even Richard Fineman didn’t look further than that. Richard Potvin would extend Richard Fineman’s motto “there’s plenty of room at the bottom” to 10*-35 meters.
ADDENDUM based on CharGPT query.
* As we descend to smaller and smaller scales, the rules of physics change dramatically.
* Quantum mechanics dominates at the atomic and subatomic levels.
* The Planck length represents a fundamental limit to our understanding of space and time, as we currently know them.
* Many of the concepts at the smallest scales are theoretical and subject to ongoing research.
* **10-26 meters:**
* **Scale:** GUT Scale
* **Interesting/Curious:** Some theories of quantum gravity suggest the granularity of spacetime becomes apparent around this scale.
* **10-18 meters:**
* **Scale:**
* **Interesting/Curious:** Searching for new fundamental particles and interactions. Still within the realm of particle physics experiments.
* **10-9 meters (0.000000001 meters = 1 nm):**
* **Scale:** A nanometer.
* **Interesting/Curious:** Individual molecules (small to medium sized). Carbon nanotubes, the size of some quantum dots, the scale at which quantum mechanical effects become significant for many systems.
* **10-1 meters (0.1 meters = 10 cm):**
* **Scale:** About the size of a hand.
* **Interesting/Curious:** Small insects, the size of a large apple or a grapefruit, the width of a CD or DVD.
Rick- The brain is not a grapefruit. To suggest that the human mind is dependent on functions operating at 10*-9 is as ridiculous as thinking of the brain as a grapefruit. I AM NOT a grapefruit. Neither are you. Watch “The Powers of Ten” on Youtube. That’ll be another of my primary references in my coming more-developed argument.
Thanks for posting. It got me juiced. Oops... maybe I’m part grapefruit.
