Your personality and memory are either embedded in your preservable and potentially reanimatable brain structure or they're not. If they are, cryonics makes sense. If they're not, cryonics is pointless.
Follow me on this.
Human conciousness either emerged from evolutionary processes or preceded evolutionary processess.
Step two.
If human consciousness emerged from evolutionary processes, then the POTENTIAL for that human conciousness emerging from evolutionary processes HAD to have PRECEDED that emergence. In effect, there had to be a BACKGROUND UNIVERSE "into which" the evolutionary conciousness emerged INTO. The POTENTIAL had to PRECEDE the EMERGENCE.
There is no other choice other than that human-type consciousness is admitted to have been primary in the first place. That 'choice' is the same as the POTENTIAL for human-type conciousness to have PRECEDED the actual emergence.
YOUR position as a materialist is that human-type conciousness emerged purely by organic SURPRISE in a universal nature that it, itself, did not expect. It's as if the amoeba became monkey became man and then rose up and said ... "look at me, the smart monkey!!!"... I created a NEW THING... my human-level conciousness that never existed before in the eternity of the universe and that I, human-monkey, created as a new LAW OF THE UNIVERSE! ...I, the human-monkey, MUST be "GOD"!!!! because I created MY OWN conciousness!
That's you. The egotistical MONKEYMAN who believe he created himself.
Good for you monkeyman.
SuperMonkey!
Your denial of a precedent potential for human-like conciousness seems to me to be ....
one
big
