It is after serious consideration and much consultation -- but with great sadness, as well -- that we have canceled the 2020 Arcadia Invitational.
Both the scope and the trend of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent days has created an environment in which we must act prudently in protecting the well-being of all prospective attending athletes and coaches, as well as our officials, vendors and staff.
Please know that we looked at various options to try to make this work. With an event projecting to host athletes from 550+ schools, 28 states and five nations, we have very different responsibilities than most meets. This far-reaching endeavor only becomes more complex under such local, regional and national circumstances that this pandemic has brought.
With the focus on protecting your athletes and staff and all those associated with the event, we feel this was the absolute necessary decision.
For those of you that might have already purchased either airline tickets and/or hotel reservations, please be aware that in such national or global developments that are considered 'natural catastrophes', a legal term known as "force majeure" often comes into play.
As some coaches have already learned, airlines and hotels are allowing cancellations without penalty.
Please reach out to those as soon entities as soon as possible, especially if your school or districtl has already closed on-campus classes, if your state association has suspended athletic contests, or if directives from the federal authorities prohibit flying. Politely emphasize the obvious unique federal nature of the problem and they will likely work with you.
Again, we regret having to make this decision, but it is for the greater good. Please be safe in the weeks to come.
We hope to see you in 2021.
Regards,
Rich Gonzalez
