lights up your face in orange and gold;
It was such a special thrill to win at hide and seek and find so many extra friends! Morveren twisted around and around on top of the bar, gazing with indiscriminate affection into each of their faces. The soft purr of a melody-voice caught her attention and she turned to regard the speaker with curiosity. He held his paw out; Morveren immediately snuffled her nose fully into it, absorbing the enticing, familiar scents of stone dusty fabric and four-legged run-fasts. She turned her head in a catlike gesture, inviting him to rub the side of her face, and gave a warm brr! of recognition. It was Big Toothmouth’s Thing! Her long, whiplike tail thrashed, if possible, even faster. Big Toothmouth’s Thing was a friend from the Great Stone, her old home! Morveren had not been to the Great Stone since the day she and her thing swam the ocean to the land of wood-leaf, but on Big Toothmouth’s Thing it smelled fresh and welcoming. He took his paw away, extending it to another friend. Morveren made a little mmm noise of protest, but only for a moment, because her tail caught on a bottle of something on the far wall and brought it to the ground with a terrible smash. Immediately, Morveren lowered herself to a submissive stance on the bar and glanced guiltily over her shoulder at Thing with Many Fur-Friends. Whenever the smash! noise happened, her thing usually got upset. The glittering glass and pooling liquid on the floor smelled like headache and… Morveren’s ears pricked and her nose quivered. Sugar?! Morveren. Loved. Sugar!! She dove onto the floor behind the bar and snuffled at the vibrant blue liquid, careful to avoid the rainbow of shattered glass. She licked it. Mistake! The pungent taste of tongue-curling headache overpowered the tasteless sweetness, forcing her to back up, shaking her head. Water! She needed water to take the taste away, or food, like maybe a cookie or cake or… Food! Morveren had a job! She had to get the food! Prancing backwards, she performed a wiggling u-turn in the tight space and crossed the distance in a single bounce to Thing with Many Fur-Friends, who was one of Morveren’s top 11 favourite people ever. Bringing herself up onto her hind legs, Morv stretched her front paws up Thing with Many Fur-Friend’s body as far as they would go and gazed at her intently.
