Hesperus’s tail wagged again at the name, wriggling closer to his new mother. His eyes glowed as he peered out from under her white fur, a splash of color against the albino. He soaked in Nadia’s warmth, yawning widely when she nosed him, snuggling under her. Now he had a name, a home, and a mother. As a young pup, it was all he could ask for. His meager memories were already fading, replacing the scent of sickness and death with those of life and love.
