Khasinau waited for his betrothed, the she-wolf who was to become his wife. Bia had begun to grow on him. He tried to stay cautious, which was only halfway working. He wondered if she knew his mother, though he had never asked her so. Daneliya likely had a new life. New mate, new children. He didn’t care to know all about Daneliya and her whelps, about the mother who had never been a mother to him.
He stared out at the horizon stoically. Khasinau wondered how Bia would settle in. And did she still have reservations about this whole wedding? Did she wish she had been betrothed to a different wolf? Was she wishing even now that she didn’t have to go through with this day?
Khasinau knew he wasn’t the best husband to have, because of his innate distrust of women. He knew he looked down on them. His own mother had made him like this, after all. And Bia was the result of an affair; Bia he shouldn’t trust at all. But he did, somehow. She was wild and spunky - but not, he judged, so much so that she would commit infidelity.
He hoped this assessment was correct, and not wildly wrong.
