Cascade, the princess of Tarben, settled down in a snowbank. Spring was coming, and the snow was melting, but Tarben was an icy land. This snowbank would last for another week.
If you choose to stay you'll throw it all away
She listened to a pair of birds calling nearby. It sounded like cardinals. Cascade certainly knew her birds. She’d been here for months. Her whole life.
Cascade peered into the distance. Her hueless red eyes were the only thing that stuck out from the snowbank. Her albino genes made her blend in.
She thought she could hear something, but maybe not. Cascade lifted her head high. No sense in seeming unprincesslike; she was the princess.
Her eyes drifted to a mouse in the grass. She wasn’t hungry, but maybe she could practice her reflexes. Her paw shot out and tapped the thing.
The creature skittered away, squeaking. Cascade blocked it. The mouse tried to bite through her thick fur; she reciprocated with a slap. On and on this went, until she finally let the rodent flee.
Cascade stood up. The snow had cooled her off and now she was cold. She growled, then headed into a lap around the clearing. Might as well run. It wasn’t the nicest day.
”There’s no such thing as fate, only yourself to blame-you never walked away!”
