Cascade was hanging out by the Icecaps, stalking and spying. She was fuming. Enigma, that sonuvabitch, he didn’t deserve her; he’d just waltzed in. Walked in with his sister and claimed her but he was a newbie and since when?!
She huffed. Enigma, Kublai. The new sons of bitches who had ladies. How about Maleren? She knew he had been left out. They’d stolen girls from him. Well, maybe not her, but . . . there'd been Aurora, who had been taken by Odin. Odin should have left her for Maleren. Let the newbies be stuck without a lady for a while.
A few rumblings reached Cascade’s audits, but she didn’t pay them any mind. She stormed up the slope, mind whirling with fury. “Stupid Enigma, I don’t want to be a broodmother!” She knew more children was in the best interests of the pack. However, she wasn’t right for a mother’s life. She wanted to have great adventures, to spy.
Without missing a beat, she stomped on a snowy rock; and as soon as she did, a wall of snow came rumbling down the mountain. Cascade began to flee downward.
“There’s no such thing as fate, only yourself to blame-you never walked away!”
