Royce had been exploring his new home and learning about its laws, a bit wary of the claiming law. He wondered if that specific one led the men of Tarben to believe themselves superior to others, especially women. To think they had a right anywhere they went, all the time, to have what they wanted and do whatever they wanted to do. He couldn’t imagine being raised here, especially in the midst of the reign of Beartooth. Kublai seemed like he would be a much better king. But would he uphold the claiming? Royce wouldn’t protest if Kublai did, because it wasn’t his place to. It just felt wrong to the women, was all. It was a curious practice, one Royce worried he might grow numb to.
Kublai’s call shattered the air, summoning the pack. Royce darted to where the peacock’s call originated from. There, he found a pretty young girl. She seemed to be new to Tarben, with the auras just pouring off of her, independence and uncertainty. He wondered how she had gotten in. Royce turned to Kublai. “Hello, King Kublai. In case you don’t remember me, my name is Royce.” He then addressed the girl. “Hi. What’s your name? I’m Royce.” He genuinely wasn’t romantically interested in the girl - just wanted to introduce himself.
“Can’t you see what’s tearing you apart?”
