Firefly was gone, there was no coming back. He had buried her body just under the mountain where the lights lit up the sky. The only thing he could hope was that she wasn't in any pain when she passed. She was Persephone's look-a-like, matching her appearance in all except her eyes. Those were his eyes.
Maybe that was what he had blamed his absence in Redd's life on, maybe it was just easier to blame something he couldn't control versus the idea that he was a bad father. He didn't mean to be so distant from his boy, or from Firefly. Yet they were, and he had no idea where his son was. If he was dead, alive, with a woman and children. It was a sad life, and he lived it. How could he go be apart of his sons life, make up so much time for him? There was no way he could at this point.
Persephone was completely gone at this point, his visions and dreams of her had all faded away. He couldn't remember her face in Fireflys anymore, he couldn't hear her voice. The pain always came back to him in the day as he awoke from his empty dreams. There there was nothing but darkness. His eyes opened to the light, it had snowed last he had seen. He was so tired of being alone, was that all he was meant for? Cold nights on the mountain, doing nothing but sleeping away his days?
No, he'd be better than ever. He'd need to be. His clouded pelt had changed some since he arrived here, yet it seemed there could be something under the appearance he held all the time. Clouded violets and hazy dark blues stained his pelt as he trailed along and came down the mountain. He needed a home, somewhere warm, somewhere with wolves he could come to befriend. He was tired of just surviving, he needed to live. He wanted to live.
As he smelled the air of a border, the scent of a female and many others inside, he felt hopeful. He wasn't much of a charmer, more so he just wanted somewhere to call home and feel safe and warm. To feel needed and important. His cranium threw back as he let out a call to the alphess, or any ranked wolf that could greet him. He sat down as he finished, curling the strange speckled tail around his legs as his starry, dark blue skies looked around.
"Always waking in your sleep . . ."
