Irina wished she could roll her eyes, laughing at Hecate’s statement. Sweetheart, I will. Just as soon as I’m done with you, she thought. But also, she’d done that without EYES. EYES. Give her a break. Hecate’s hit came then; Irina tried to dodge but wasn’t exactly successful. She could feel two of her lower ribs breaking. As she stumbled to regain her balance, hissing slightly, she tried to think of where her lungs could be and hoped that she wasn’t in danger of puncturing them.
Hecate’s next attack missed entirely, as Irina could hear her coming and, with a great deal of effort, sidestepped accordingly. Hecate barreled through, dirt spraying up onto Irina’s forelegs, and she turned with the woman.
She launched a devastating assault at the place where she was quite sure Hecate was, aiming for a hit to the closest body part she could. As it turned out this was Hecate’s face, and Irina’s top teeth again plunged down for her eyes in a raking maneuver; a half hit would leave Hecate blinded in both eyes, and have the added bonus of Irina raking down, catching her dislocated lower jaw and yanking it again before her jaws slid off.
Irina struck again, giving Hecate no time to recover. She summoned all her strength, felt the storm in her bones, and sent a jagged burst of white lightning at her tenacious opponent, using the sound of her voice and movement to guide her. If it was a half hit, one of Hecate’s uninjured legs would suffer, having minor nerve damage and nasty burns, probably causing spasms, and almost certainly giving unpleasant tingling sensations if it wasn’t numb.
