Vaughn strolled through the flowers, clearly enjoying the sight of them. There were so many! So many different colors, shapes, kinds; he wanted to bask in them all.
His daughter was happy. She would probably move to Hawthorne soon, though. Then, he wouldn’t get the privilege of seeing Leona every day. The prospect saddened Vaughn, but also warmed his heart, for he knew she was happy with Kodlak. Love was a precious thing. He had found it with Leona’s mother, or at least he’d thought he did - she was a sweet woman. But he didn’t miss her nearly as much as Leona did, and this had been leading him to think that perhaps it was a hallucinated love. One that existed only in his mind, not in his heart and soul. If he was to see his mate again . . . he didn’t believe he would feel anything. So it was best to never go back. There would be too many questions, too much awkwardness, and too much . . . well . . . homesickness, actually. Vaughn’s new home was Starfall. He was happier and safer than he’d ever been.
He sat in a patch of flowers, feeling bittersweet yet happy.
“And a place in my heart, will always be hers”
