When official signing day nears, the coaches at that dream school present a scholarship offer much less than what was initially promised. Sometimes, this is dishonesty on the part of the coaches. Usually, it is a change of situation. The team has picked up a commit from someone else who fits their needs, or they need to free up more money for another recruit they want more.
I see a lot of hate directed at kids for changing their minds, but not much directed at the schools. I am not saying that Santos was on the receiving end of this hate, but it is important to realize how the process actually works.
