I like your plan for the weights, and would actually support it. I actually think you bring up some good points and it's worth a discussion. I could go either way as far as having each classification hold their own. It's nice as a fan to watch everybody and it attracts wrestling fans that otherwise may not show up. Also the OSAA makes more money that way, which is a GOOD thing people. They support HS sports. But smaller venues could be easier. I asked our wrestlers and they said they liked the larger venue though.
As for schools travelling, LITERALLY 90% (that is factual) of schools would have access to a major freeway, either I5, I84, if the tournament was in Portland, Salem, Corvallis, or Eugene. Moving it to Redmond would mean that both the Classic and State would be in Redmond, being an inconvenience for that 90% that would have to drive over a pass. And if this years Classic didn't teach you something, you can't be taught. It was plain as day that travelling to Central Oregon in Jan or Feb is a crapshoot.
