The reality is Athletics department's are bloated with administrator's and non revenue producing employees. To suggest that Troy himself over spent (next post by Idaho) without his AD's oversight is again not an informed post. No way do any coaches spend into debt that far without oversight and approvals! In fact it would be nice if the Athletic Director had someone to check on the job he has done with the revenue he was given and with how he did or did not communicate with these programs in an effort to allow them to become financially solvent. This decision makes zero sense with respect to Wrestling in that location.
You can bash Fresno for not being an attractive place to live or however you so eloquently put it but the reality is the kids/families in that community
1) Love Wrestling and are damn good at it
2) Have many 1st generation college students who NEED a wrestling program and the support involved in that to earn a college degree!
This will not be the last program dropped at the D1 level and we should be careful as it appears to me that D1 Wrestling on west coast is under attack and seen as expendable.
