Many kids who are not your all star wrestlers rely on their school team to participate because it is what they can afford. They workout and train with the higher level kids in their school who maybe do attend some of these clubs in the surrounding area. They get better this way and your team can grow and develop new talent.
The idea that these clubs will skim the top 5-10% of talent from all the the teams around them and give the elite (or those who can afford it) a place to meet up and train. This leaves the kids who don't have the means to do this and maybe need wrestling in their lives on their own. For kids like this, they need wrestling in their lives maybe more than wrestling needs them.
If school wrestling stays shut down and clubs continue, it will push those higher level kids that teams rely on to make other athletes on their team better toward the club. A large number of wrestlers who would normally be competing for their school will be left behind because they simply can't make the private club thing work for one reason or another. A further worry to some is that those high level kids will stay at the club and not return to their school team later.
There is a place for both school and club wrestling, but right now a large portion of the wrestling population is being left behind. Those wrestlers of families that have the means to make club wrestling happen will be fine. Those wrestlers of families that don't are the ones to worry about. Wrestling should be for anyone who wants to do it, not just those who can afford it.
