Being able to take more than one wrestler per weight creates more opportunities for kids. How many times have we seen kids from the same school in the finals at our district and state tournaments? It happens every year.
If you want a true state tournament then I say wrestle dual meet state tournaments and crown division champions like other sports. 6A team champion, 5A team champion, etc., wrestle league duals before christmas. Start a bracketed dual meet championship after chistmas and end the middle of February. Then run 4 regional qualifiers all divisions in one. The 4 qulifiers would be 64 man brackets. Teams could enter 2 per weight. Top 8 qualify for the state tournament 32 man bracket.
This way small schools still get to compete and have team pride with the dual meet titles. It also allows their best kids to compete at the highest level in the 1 state tournament.
What do you think?
