CV and Newberg are currently the leading programs in Oregon, and to pit them against each other this way is bad for the sport, the state and the programs.
As far as a dual between the two, I like that idea a lot. Let the kids wrestle it out for a result other than speculating. I'm sure all the wrestlers would jump at an opportunity to clash this year!
Garvin - tough kid, period. Beating Wask, who has been a nationally ranked wrestler the past 2 years is no small feat. CV or no CV, he will defend his title tooth and nails I'm certain at Gut Check against teams like Lake Highland Prep, Wyo Sem, Flathead, SLAM Academy, etc...
Rylan Rogers - one of the most humble, polite, hard working kids on and off the mat I have ever met. His family gives him support and let's him make decisions about his wrestling career and education. He is going back to CDA this year. Bob is not the bad guy portrayed here either.
I know both CV and Newberg were invited to Gut Check this year, for both the duels and individual tournament. Newberg committed months ago and CV has recently declined. I know this because I am the tournament director. The door is open for CV to come if they change their minds, and having both teams attend make the event even tougher.
There's a lot of hostility here gents, just as on the WA board which is detrimental for our beloved sport. Oregon not only has great teams as mentioned in other posts here, but also has great college wrestling opportunities that WA and Idaho have lost. Be competitive always, but support your teams, kids, and foes alike!
I hope there is normalcy for all of us this season, we all need it, none more than the kids and we forget about that sometimes.
