Re: Radley Collge impressed at the facilities they have
Good schools with parents that engage produce pupils who want to attain regardless of background. State schools get penalised financially over fee paying schools via VAT, rates etc as fee paying schools are almost always set up as charities, state schools are not allowed to go this route, it impacts on what schools are able to offer to maximise attainment. Funding to schools has reduced significantly in real terms.I spent as much time engaging with possible sponsors as I did with curriculum business as a school governor. Not every school has someone who can do that. I got sponsors for football teams, netball, music, breakfast and afterschool clubs, not a fortune but had a real impact on extra curricular activities. If state schools got the same financial breaks as fee paying schools I would not have had to do what I did.
