CIU Clubs is Despair

My local CIU AGM last evening, it was sadness I attended my local CIU clubs AGM (Annual General Meeting), I had advertised this meeting for quite a few days on my website yet approximately 50 members turned out, the meeting explaining the club was still functioning with booking for celebrations etc, which appeared fairly healthy, one major problem that it was only the functions keeping this club going, I remember as a committee member taking subs for over 800 on the books now down to 250, most of these, only visit once a year to pay their subs, leaving without ever buying a drink, like most clubs, without any live entertainment, they stay empty, this mainly due to cost of bands or artist thinking they are superstars, they are the way to costly to pay and make any profif, at the AGM, the worst was yet to come, en-bloc, secretary, chairman, treasurer, and committee all are to be replaced, I have offered to help with websites and a few technical issues, the other item is CIU clubs are still having to pay the loan they received in the Covid years, with Heating and energy, brewery costs, staff wages, and competion from people not going out just sitting in front of TV with cheap supermarket drinks, it is a tough challenge, but and it is a big but, with the correct management, better entertainment organised, smarter media websites, involving younger members to join, snooker, darts , football, angling , even Leek compitions, there just maybe a chance to save our clubs, hope you agree and comment with any ideas.
