Clubs in a lot of cases haven't moved with the times. Keeping a band on the road is a costly business hence the fees. They aren't attracting the youngsters and the older members are getting less and less each year. A club that does seem to have bucked the trend is Blakelaw Social Club in Newcastle, it has a thriving sporting side to the club with darts pool and snooker league involvement, I believe a football team is on the go too. They maximise the use of the rooms in the club, they have a good size concert room and have built relationships with various darts tournaments in the North East and host quite a few now. Clubs have to be more proactive and go out looking for business not just expecting it to come to the door, those days are gone.
