But they had a 2/3 chance of a draw where they’d have to beat both City and Madrid. So getting a draw where the two of them play each other first is the most important win. Adding an extra round before that potential matchup so that they might not have to play either would have been a slight additional advantage. And playing Dortmund rather than Bayern would have been a plus.
