Seems like I see that number all the time. Now I'm having difficulty finding it.
What I HAVE found is from the "Tax Foundation":
1. The top 1 percent of taxpayers (AGI of $663,164 and above) paid the highest average income tax rate of 26.1 percent — seven times the rate faced by the bottom half of taxpayers.
2. The top 1 percent earned 22.4 percent of total AGI and paid 40.4 percent of all federal income taxes.
3. In all, the top 1 percent of taxpayers accounted for more income taxes paid than the bottom 90 percent combined. The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid $864 billion in income taxes while the bottom 90 percent paid $599 billion.

So the top 1 percent already pay around $864 billion.
If you were to raise their top tier tax rate to whatever - 80%, 90%, 100% - how much more would you squeeze out of them?
Maybe you could get them to pay $1 trillion a year?
