I really have no idea if someone can actually LIVE on taxpayer assistance - housing, food, medical, child support, etc.
But it seems to me that, over the many years of its existence, it has created a mindset that it's easier to live on government assistance than to work.
And it's that mindset that has gotten in the way of people aggressively working to better their lot in life.
I mean, there are people who almost literally come to this country (legally) with nothing. Black, White, Asian, whatever. And in a generation or two, their children and/or grandchildren have the American Dream. An education, a good job, a home in a nice neighborhood, a couple nice cars, leisure time, etc.
And yet there are a lot of people who come from families who have been here for GENERATIONS who have done NOTHING to better their condition.
And then they want to blame that on anything and anyone but themselves.
I don't know how that cycle gets broken.
