Historically, liberals have supported tariffs to punish countries and companies who have moved production facilities out of the US with the goal of reducing costs to US consumers. The traditional argument has been made that the tariff penalties have protected higher paying American jobs, therefore the increase in price is justified.

Are higher prices more important to you than preserving US jobs?
