and the sending of them and the Marines into L.A.
They'd say something like "I'm talking directly to the troops - you have the right to disobey
any unlawful order!"
That surprised me. I assumed that most Veterans felt like I did - that people attacking and
potentially maiming or killing Federal Agents, destroying property, and preventing Federal
Officers from doing their jobs, were definitely "domestic enemies", and that if the local
government in California couldn't control the riots, the Guard and Marines might be needed
to prevent another Minneapolis or Portland.
So last night when I was at my American Legion Post working Bingo, I did a poll of my
fellow Veterans, those working Bingo, and any that I had connected with on Messenger.
These are all branches of the military, Officer and Enlisted, Vets who only served four years
all the way up to 20+ year retirees.
The responses I've gotten so far are pretty much what I expected:
Yes to sending both the Guard and the Marines: 13
Yes to the Guard, but No to the Marines: 5
No to sending either the Guards or the Marines: ZERO
45
