Nashville has c. 40,000 criminal offenses per year from a population of about 700,000. Sapporo has about 11,000 criminal offenses (relatively few of them violent) from a little over three times the population. Greater Tokyo has about 350k per year...from a population of over 38 million. Different cultural norms...
Nashville's a cool city...I'd feel sufficiently safe there.
