I can definitely see immigrants from Cuba or Nicaragua prioritizing getting away from socialism. Both of those countries are actually predominantly socialist (Cuba more so).

I think the real key here is getting away from authoritarian regimes, something which occurs far too often in Latin America, regardless of economic systems. The US's seeming slide towards authoritarianism is likely as alarming to these folks as it is to American citizens.
