As far as I know, the guy has zero experience owning or managing a business. Even the most successful grocery stores achieve about a two percent margin. To get fresh produce and quality food items to consumers requires complex, efficient supply chains and economies of scale. The government is not equipped to be successful at providing food consistently to consumers at market prices.

Promising people free stuff in exchange for their vote is a recipe for disaster. Maybe Mamdani should leave the food business to the people who are efficient at making it work at a two percent margin and focus on getting rid of the rats the size of cats roaming the streets of New York.
