The term “general welfare” has been abused and bastardized from its original meaning.

Influential founders like Madison and Jefferson clearly defined “general welfare” as limited to enumerated Constitutional powers. They considered federal government spending which required the redistribution of wealth and earnings to be an infringement on the individual’s right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Just because progressives named massive wealth redistribution programs “welfare” doesn’t mean it conforms with the Constitutional intent of the founders.
