This from 9/11 Commission Report and elsewhere:
December 19, 2000. Atta and Shehhi took their commercial pilot license tests at Huffman
Aviation, completing their schooling. Atta received a score of 93 in 116 minutes and
Shehhi received a score of 73 in 99 minutes.
Atta entered the United States on June 3, 2000. He and Shehhi soon enrolled in flight school in Venice, Florida. Atta spent six months earning his pilot's license in December 2000. (On Clinton's watch)
