Oh sure, a few renters get to save some money for a couple of years. But demand for rental units will continue to rise. And by freezing the price of rent while its costs continue to rise does not produce cheap or abundant service. Instead, it produces deteriorating assets, diminishes the incentive to invest in needed housing, and ends up hurting the people it was designed to help.

Free people making voluntary decisions should determine the market for rental units, not some egocentric politician with no real world experience. We don’t have to guess about the virtues of socialism. History reveals its predictable outcomes: misery, pain, and human suffering.
