Mamdani (D-NY) got his rent freeze wish. That is not good news for renters.

Oh sure, a few renters get to save some money for a couple of years. But demand for rental units will continue to rise. And by freezing the price of rent while its costs continue to rise does not produce cheap or abundant service. Instead, it produces deteriorating assets, diminishes the incentive to invest in needed housing, and ends up hurting the people it was designed to help.

Free people making voluntary decisions should determine the market for rental units, not some egocentric politician with no real world experience. We don’t have to guess about the virtues of socialism. History reveals its predictable outcomes: misery, pain, and human suffering.

Trump (R) is also standing the way of affordable housing, bad news for home buyers:

Neither is automatically disastrous. For example:

Countries like Sweden, Denmark, and Norway utilize a blend of capitalism and socialism (often called "Social Democracy"). They combine free-market enterprise with expansive social safety nets.

Spain is the world's largest worker cooperative. It operates successfully by pooling ownership and keeping executive pay proportional to worker wages. Germany’s "co-determination" model gives workers seats on corporate boards, fostering labor harmony and strong manufacturing.

That doesn’t mean that they are good.

They stifle investment in new housing and are contributing factors to high rent costs.

I have a friend who lives in Copenhagen and pays the equivalent of $2,000 USD per month for a tiny apartment.

seems to be a good taker with room for a chosen one
to re-capture a dynasty, like never before, and do n
say things to be the center of attention.

Those people with the paler skin* living in those countries
along the coast seem to have been content for most of
the past 500 years or so rehearsing their own quiet,
open minded, way of borrowing what works; like not
starting any big War; and good clockworks n putting
other peoples assets to work. Most of those folk just
want enough money to buy wood to burn to stay warm…

If you like warm water surfing and diving, but tread
heavily and carry a big stick around accepting new
ideas, and people who pretty much think it’s OK to
do their own thing, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone…

I dare any renter to go into business for themselves and learn a good hard lesson in life...of their jealousies....

Sadly, there are few mom and pop businesses left in this era...where many learned the ins and outs of owning their own business...and learning about customers.....and how to make a living out of a business.....especially, retail, and rental, etc., etc., etc.

NY is over populated not enough room .
