You cannot help people permanently by giving them what they can and should earn for themselves. If someone utilized your services and refused to pay on the grounds that they are “poor”, you would report it. If someone took your wallet and said they were entitled to it because they were “poor”, you would call it theft. But if politicians take money from one person who earned it and give it to someone who didn’t, they get re-elected. It doesn’t cease to become theft, just because government does it.

There are people in need of help. Charity is one of the nobler human motivations. The act of reaching into one's own pockets to help a fellow man in need is praiseworthy and laudable. Reaching into someone else's pocket is despicable and worthy of condemnation.

Government should not be in the business of theft. It should be creating conditions whereby people are free to create value for others in free markets devoid of government interference.
