If you look at the demographic that supports the rise of socialism in the Democrat party it is people with a college degree and a substantial amount of student debt. The degree is in a discipline that is practically useless in terms of creating value for others which is the foundation of a thriving free market economy.

So it is people who made a poor decision, earn between $30-60 K per year, and now want to blame others (and capitalism) for their lack of judgement.

Economic freedom and political freedom are correlated largely because economic freedom decreases the dependence of individuals on government or other potential forces in society that would restrict liberty or attempt to centralize power.

These supporters of socialism would trade freedom for a small degree of security caused by their poor decisions.
