Heart trouble is the one thing everyone is told never to ignore. Yet many Canadians with cardiac conditions are waiting in a queue.
Data from Ontario Health shows 355 patients died while waiting for cardiac surgery or a cardiac procedure during the fiscal year 2024-25. It is one of the most severe findings in our latest waiting list research, which counted at least 23,746 deaths on waitlists across the country last year.
Since 2018, we have documented more than 100,000 cases of Canadians dying before they got the care they were promised.
These are people who paid into the system their whole lives. They deserved to be seen in time.
