I'm mystified how an engine is inherently "hot" when its the cooling system capacity that makes that condition.
If one was to hotrod one and not increase the cooling capacity appropriately, I could see it, especially as the earlier ones were poured babbitt main-bearing engines. Very quickly they went to shells, one of the earliest production engines to do so, and became very popular for modification.
Sounds like mythology following poor application practices to me.
