I never said he wasn't successful, though to be honest he was no more strategically consistent than that little Austrian Corporal that came along somewhat later. I do marvel a bit at how American historians seem more generous about Napoleon, though. I often wonder if it has to do with the early relationship with France being still ingrained in the psyche.
Me? I personally see nothing admirable in the bastard any more than in Hitler or Stalin. He is one of those historical figures for whom I cannot muster any generosity.
