However, in my case it is due to a cracked vertebrae, an impact induced laminectomy (Grin), two surgical laminectomies, a good slamming of the sacrum, and a pretty well crushed coccyx. It's the classic compression injury of the spinal column. Otherwise, everything is in good shape. (Grin!)
There are people now filtering into the system who come from the military world or have spent a lot of time with us. They have learnt a huge amount since I did this, a lot of that knowledge from Iraq and Afghanistan once the militaries started deploying mine resistant vehicles. That was all fine and good, but you run over a mine or an IED and you get to experience what literally is a vehicle being suddenly shoved up your arse.
They then saw a large uptick in spinal compression injuries, what used to be in the purvey of Paras and carrier pilots, but now much more common and better understood. In the worst cases this can actually can sever the sciatic or sacral nerves. In my case both have been damaged but are still intact.
It was my current physical therapist who really got a handle on this as a package; muscle groups locked up in guard for years, pelvic floor issues (they aren't just for women anymore! Grin!) Anyway, its a laugh a minute and something that can go pearshaped at the slightest provocation. The best part is the usual spinal degradation and onsets of arthritis that come with age make things more and more dangerous. There will be a day when walking becomes a thing of the past unless I'm both extremely conscientious and extremely lucky.
We did go out in the "B" this afternoon, a great mental lift. Now its the comfy chair, an icepack, a flexoril, and these two holding me down so I stop doing stupid shit for the evening.
Memsahib is whipping up some bangers and mash tonight, and a wee drap is in my immediate future!
