MEDIATION MANUAL
However carefully done, however well intentioned your intervention, you must know for a fact that doing so will alter the time line irrevocably.
There is no possibility of avoiding this outcome no matter how subtle or ingenious the alteration.
Mediators may point out that their actions avoided a temporal rift or other such catastrophe but despite that it is inevitable some equally atrocious interaction will be caused sooner or later.
To understand why this has to be so please study the example given in Appendix B - The Barrier.
APPENDIX B
THE BARRIER
No fault or blame is to be attached to the operative responsible for this. (See Mediator Personnel List)
The operation was initiated in a praiseworthy attempt to prevent genocidal atrocities committed by a barely sentient species against an established and superior racial group encumbered by their slow reproductive rates.
Justification for ignoring what would normally be considered the inevitable result of evolutionary progress was submitted to the Masters for evaluation and approved.
Psycho-kinetic development in all species is so rare that Command allows the prime directives to be ignored in such instances.
(See Prime Directives against Alien Interference)
The individual group most at risk and the most mature of the three main mutations from the original progenitor species were known as the Elves and considered as senior by the other two who looked to them for wisdom and advice.
The Mentor therefore decided to aid the Elves by manipulating them into creating a psycho kinetic force field seperating a remote portion of an uninhabited island from the normal plane of existence.
As far as could be asserted by even the most rigorous examination, it appeared that the Barrier had been erected successfully by an elite band of Elven Elders on whose subsequent natural demise the last traces of interference were eradicated.
A singular outpost appearing completely natural was erected to maintain and increase Barrier strength over time. The necessary device needed to harness the energy powering the Barrier is hidden within a view screen accessible only by a single individual Elf named the List Keeper.
This device also displays warning signs of potential temporal hazards only when necessary and then only can act upon them by the Mediators presence.
