My late father used to express the view, when well meaning people opined that he fought a war so people could have the right to vote, that part of why he fought a war (ignoring the most obvious candidates) was the right to withhold that same vote should he desire to do so.

As far as I'm aware it's compulsory in Australia to vote and I hope that we never go down that road.
