Mine usually are in a roll but with brown sauce (HP can be found here if one looks) as in the last. I have no idea why I haven't in recent years but adding a runny egg sounds like something to revisit. Now that I have a source for bacon proper for purpose, all is right in the world. You won't find it in a chain supermarket here, though; American thin-cut streaky bacon is the norm.
