Having lived on both sides of the puddle, there is more than just a hint of bilingualism, I'm afraid. It actually can be a pain in the arse/ass as I end up having to explain myself quite often; "Whar yew frum? You ain't frum round here!" Americans, especially rural ones, get very suspicious. I have to consciously affect American speech patterns and accent and some days I'm not successful at it, days I'm tired or worn down by pain.
On the other hand, British epithet and insults rarely get snagged by internet auto-censors, the algorithms written by Americans to stop Americans from typing those words they are so uptight about. It's a very handy skillset to have, I must admit. GRIN!
