Run-flats stay up because they are so non-compliant, especially the sidewalls. For that reason, they are bloody dangerous as adhesion suffers dramatically with the inability to conform to cornering forces and contact patch irregularities. Not to mention the ride is awful.
I could go on; unsprung weight is higher, break-away is unpredictable and non-repeatable. Wet road-surface adhesion sucks.
I had them on that awful BMW/Mini and they ruined the only good part of the car, the suspension. They were the first thing I changed on that car and the only improvement to it that was successful.
On the other hand, they were invented so Little Tiffany will never have to change a tyre and at that they are successful.
I loathe them with every fibre of my being, and not just because they go against everything I believe about driver competence. They are truly dangerous.
A runflat tyre is a wagon wheel made to look like a car wheel.
