Go to any book store and there are shelves of ostensibly useful books guiding you through big life-events (usually written by unmarried childless female psychologists, presumably because they are the only ones who actually have the time to crank out this twaddle).

A big section on pregnancy, another pile on caring for Baby, a row on child-rearing.

Then there is the collection on getting into university next to the stack on careers, investment, and let us not forget the shelves upon shelves on weddings to the left, successful marriage on the right.

Oddly, when it comes to books full of advice, f#*k all on being old. I wonder why....
