What is with this old man's preoccupation with death? Every time I open my email dam near, someone is sending me "sad news" or "another [fill in the blank] passes". This is always followed by paeans and eulogies and soliloquies as each practices their obituary skills, more attention getting onto themselves than anything else; such handwringing at a level one wonders how the writer will continue to draw breath let alone get anything done that day. Lucky is the man who actually is the first with the news as he wins the race and becomes the recipient of kudos and heartfelt thanks for making life miserable yet again today.
How in the eff does anyone get to "our age" without having come to terms with one's longevity let alone face death down a time or two, or is the general male population today so coddled by modern society they have never done so? Those of us who have, are we such a rarity anymore, much like a man who can change a tyre or fix something around the house? I'm getting the impression, every time the wails and lamentations hit my inbox, that is the case anymore.
What a bunch of miserable sods.
